The female presence in the Italian charts grows

The unstoppable march of the Italian music marks the year 2023, closing a 12-month period full of successes and great results portraited by the annual Top Of The Music by FIMI/GfK sales charts.

Il coraggio dei bambini by Geolier reaches the first place in the Album & Compilation chart (which includes physical, digital and premium streaming), followed by Sirio by Lazza and La Divina Commedia by Tedua. Sanremese is instead the podium of the Singles chart (downloads and premium streaming), led by Cenere by Lazza, while Due vite by Marco Mengoni and Supereroi by Mr.Rain are positioned respectively in the second and third place.

The Vinyl chart is led by the iconic The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, followed by Cvlt by Salmo & Noyz Narcos and X2VR by Sfera Ebbasta.

The female presence in the charts is also growing: in 2022 in the top 20 positions of the Singles chart there were only 4 female artists, while in 2023 their presence rises to 7, reaching 12 places in the first 30 positions (compared to seven in 2022) for an amount of presence equal to 40% of this chart segment. The latter data is the highest of the last ten years, opening up to an optimistic growth trend.

"The 2023 evaluation is extremely positive for the Italian music, which covers 80% of the Album chart: a data that only ten years ago, in 2013, stopped at 63%. It is a considerable result in the frame of a cultural industry which is strongly subject to all the technological revolutions but always puts human creativity at the center" comments Enzo Mazza, FIMI CEO.

The strong commitment of this industry by supporting its talents emerges from the results of the awards assigned in 2023, for a total of 1181 titles, divided between 160 albums, 2 compilations and 1019 Singles.

In 2023 streaming dominated Italian consumption, with over 71 billion streams - including Premium and Free - and a growth of 15.9% compared to the previous year. Furthermore, 793 albums exceed the 10 million streaming threshold (Premium + Free): an important result that marks + 235 titles compared to 2022.

In line with the phygital project started last year with the technical partner Brots, the FIMI Award for the 2023 best-seller album also this year - exploiting blockchain technology - is digitized in the form of NFT, hosted in the wallet of the Federation available at this address.
